Upstate New York is a haven for ski enthusiasts, and Steuben is close to excellent mountain opportunities. Holiday Valley and Bristol Mountain are among the most popular destinations for skiing in New York. Getting to these resorts can be tricky, especially without a car, but visitors should rest assured that there are several convenient transportation options available.
If you’re making a trip to Holiday Valley or Bristol from New York City, you will have several transportation options to get upstate. While flying is always an option, it is often the most expensive choice. We recommend taking a bus to Buffalo (departs from Port Authority every three hours), then utilizing the 530 bus from Buffalo to Ellicottville. When planned properly, this trip should only cost around $65. Riders can also take the VIA Rail from Grand Central Station to Buffalo, but this option is often more expensive and time-consuming.
There are no resort-run shuttles to or from Holiday Valley and Bristol Mountain. However, individual accommodations, such as the Inn at Holiday Valley, offer a winter shuttle service to base lodges. If you plan to spend the night in the area, your hotel, bed and breakfast, or inn may have some type of winter shuttle service.
Taxi and Rideshare
On weekends, Holiday Valley makes a taxi service available to the Village. Taxi services are widely available in and around Ellicottville, but users should be aware of this option’s high cost. A few minutes’ drive could cost more than twenty dollars. Ride share services are also widely available, but skiers should be wary of surge pricing during popular transportation times. If you plan to use a rideshare service to travel to and from the ski lodge, contact your driver to ensure the car is equipped to handle ski equipment.
Once you arrive in Ellicottville, there are no public transportation options. There are, however, several convenient buses in Canandaigua.
When you have arrived in or near Holiday Valley and Bristol Mountain, you may consider renting a car for easy, independent transportation. There are several Enterprise Rent-A-Car facilities in the area, as well as a Hertz, an Avis, and a Discount Auto Rental. If you do not have a car of your own, this is often the most popular choice for getting around upstate New York. If you choose to drive, Holiday Valley is located off 219, and Bristol Mountain is located off 64.
